Listen to Reading using iPod Shuffles

The web is full of tips for implementing the Daily 5. One of our favorites comes from the blog: First Grade Fanatics written by Leslie and Erin. In their second year of doing the Daily 5 they were struggling with Listen to Reading.  Books with CDs were expense and they also wondered how to keep track of books separate from the CDs.

Their solution - they invested in a few iPod Shuffles. Shuffles can be found on the Apple Education site in the refurbished section. I've seen shuffles listed online for as little as $30-$35. Then they used Garage Band to record themselves reading the books. They admit the book's CDs are more fun, but they get the job done.

To keep things organized, Leslie and Erin, got matching colored bins to keep the iPods and books in. They say kids know the blue iPod and books go in the blue bin.

One last tip - Leslie and Erin ask kids to bring in their own ear buds so they don't have to share. Sounds good to us!
